Mr. Erickson is a Principal with McDougal Boehmer Foley Lyon Mitchell & Erickson. Mr. Erickson received his Juris Doctor degree in 1992 from the University of Kansas, where he also obtained Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Political Science.
Rex Randall Erickson
Mr. Erickson started his career at the McDougal law firm thirty years ago, where he practiced for eight years. After leaving the McDougal law firm, Mr. Erickson joined Zampi & Associates in late 1999, which then became Zampi, Determan & Erickson, and then the Erickson Law Firm. For the past twenty-two years, Mr. Erickson and his law firms have represented California school districts, charter schools, community college districts, and California State University auxiliary organizations in a wide variety of legal issues involving all aspects of public school and education law, employment and employer-employee relations law, and discrimination law, including handling employee disciplinary matters, discrimination complaints (by and against employees and students), and conducting layoff hearings. Mr. Erickson also has extensive experience in advising clients on compliance with state and federal laws, including the Ralph M. Brown Act, California Public Records Act, A.D.A., A.D.E.A., F.E.H.A., as well as the Education and Government Codes and Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations. He has also represented community college and school district clients as lead negotiator in collective bargaining with both classified and faculty employee unions, as well as in arbitration hearings over disputes arising from collective bargaining agreements and in litigation brought by labor unions challenging the decisions of employers. As lead negotiator, he has represented clients in negotiations with CTA. AFT, CSEA, IUOE, SEIU, SAG-AFTRA and an independent faculty union, In addition, Mr. Erickson has represented school and community college districts in disputes with and investigations by OCR, the California Department of Education, and the Office of the Chancellor of California Community Colleges.
Mr. Erickson has extensive experience in all phases of litigation and has prepared for and conducted numerous bench and jury trials, arbitrations, administrative hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences. He has successfully represented clients in litigation before Federal District Courts, the California Municipal and Superior Courts, the California Court of Appeals, the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
Mr. Erickson has drafted and revised board policies and has conducted classification studies for community and school district clients. In addition, Mr. Erickson has conducted training seminars for community college and school districts in the areas of sexual harassment, basic labor relations, the Brown Act, and board member and administrator responsibilities.
Mr. Erickson holds a 6TH Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do, a 1st Degree Black Belt in Kempo Karate and a 2nd Degree Brown Belt in Judo.
